    Introduction:

This type of Accordion Book can be used to show Beginning, Middle and End of stories to help students separate ideas to build sequencing skills. It can also be adapted for any age range to show as little as an initial consonant for one picture for letter and sound recognition to one line of poetry or to include entire stories for older students.

    Process:

    1. Take a strip of lightweight paper and fold in half lengthways. Cut into 2 long strips.
    2. Place one strip on top of other and fold in half. Fold in half again and repeat folding until page size is reached.
    3. Open strips of paper up and refold into back-and-forth sequence so pages open up as an accordion. (Ideally there should be 7 folds)
    4. Take one strip and cut ½ way thru each fold as shown.
    5. Push each pop-out through to the other side.
    6. Repeat with second strip.
    7. Push out pop-outs on second strip.
    8. Place two sheets back to back with pop-outs facing out.
    9. Make objects to put on each pop-out.
    10. Add additional imagery to pages and color in.
    11. Add words.
    12. Make cover:
      • Cut card slightly larger than book pages. Repeat for back cover of book.
      • Cover with paper if desired. To do this, cut two-pieces of paper that are at least one inch larger than cardboard on each side.
      • Put glue on four corners of cardboard and glue to back side of paper.
      • Fold over edges and glue down.
      • Glue front and back covers to the front and back of book being sure to have the paper side out.
      • Tape on ribbons, front and back, as shown below, or glue strips of paper on like tape to hold the ribbons
